On Tomato Seeds And Greenhouse Disasters

The week started off OK, I checked on the seeds I have in the greenhouse, noticed a few starting to emerge on Wednesday, only tomatoes so far.

Yep it was all looking good, that is until Friday, the weather man said a cool front will blow thru on Friday morning.  He wasn’t kidding, gusty all morning, gray skies and a cool nip in the air.  So as usual off to work I go everything is good, or so I thought.

Around Noon my daughter calls , she was home sick from school, says that the greenhouse got blown over…panic sets in. I think of all the damaged tomato seedlings, the pepper seeds that will never sprout and bring forth the zesty chiles… oh the humanity. I asked her if all the plants and seed trays were ruined, she said no, she gathered them all up and put them in the shed. Most of them made it thru ok, some of the tomatoes were knocked loose, one tray of peppers were lost completely. Lucky for us we didn’t have that many seeds started in that greenhouse, it could have been much worse.

The scene of the damage

Most of the damage was to the small plastic clips, they didn’t hold up to the winds at all, the snapped into pieces!

The cover looks like it came thru OK, but the frame isn’t in good shape at all. I guess I will see if I can salvage anything and start again.

So in review, If you live in a windy area , you may want to look for something more substantial for your greenhouse needs.
