The Spring Garden Begins!

We started prepping the ground this weekend, some serious tilling and planting was involved.

After the good rains we had last month everything started greening up so we decided to go ahead and give the garden another shot this year, I hope the rain stays steady!

We started in the smaller raised beds, we put in spinach, chard, carrots and a few beets just for starters.  We also prepped the cucumber trellises, seeded several pickling style cucumbers and some speckled Lima beans  around the poles that hold up the cucumbers!

In the main field after several tilling passes we set out the pole beans, some sweet corn, yellow strait neck squash, and some creme peas.

After one tilling pass.

In another patch we started several varieties of tomatoes, Roma, Gulf States, Rutgers and the old favorite celebrity. We also started some hot banana peppers, in a few weeks when the seedlings get bigger we’ll put in some bells and Carmens.

Sorry for the lack of photos on this post, it’s mostly dirt at this point, but fear not As the season wears on we will have pics.

On another note, we had a new calf born last week, a jersey bull calf, he’s a cutie now but will most likely be headed for the freezer when he’s big enough…don’t need no jersey bulls around here!
