Getting Ready For The Spring Garden
We started working the garden plots this weekend, first up was the cucumber patch. That thing was an overgrown mess, no really take a look!
Last year with the drought, I just let this patch go. Now it really needs a lot of work. My wife started running the mower over the shorter stuff and she pulled out a bunch of the taller woody stuff by hand. We use the bagging mower for this part, so we can add the cuttings to the compost. This took some work, these weeds and brush were killers.
After we got the weeds and trash down we ran the hand tiller thru a few times, we have a Honda F401 model and it rocks! This is the best mid-tine tiller I have ever used, it is a dream to handle.
This thing burns thru the soil like a wild thing, it really makes short work of your small plots.
After another thirty minutes or so we have most of the patch cleaned up, we’ll probably give it a week or so and go over it again, I spread some of the leaves I had for the compost around the area of the cucumber trellises , I’ll work that in later too.
That is it for now, we also worked on the compost pile, but that is for another post, check back soon.
