This years compost pile has begun. I usually start one fresh every year, that way we never run out. This years compost pile is no different, or is it? This year I tried something new, I added a piece of rolled up fence wire to the middle of the compost to see if that will speed up the process.

Here is the first layers, note the addition

I set it right in the middle of the compost , a thin layer on bottom, and built up the compostable material around the sides. If you need to see how I layer a compost pile check here. My theory on the dead space in the middle is extra air to allow for extra aeration.

After building my layers up to the top of the cage, and making sure they had adequate moisture all the way thru the pile, it should start composting and hopefully with the extra airflow it will work much faster. Time will Tell!

So there you have it, the compost pile for this year is started , I will keep you updated on the progress as events warrant.
